About the Artist:
Born and based in Yogyakarta, Arwin Hidayat (b. 1983) is a visual artist combining primitive and contemporary motifs on paper and fabric, that are either drawn spontaneously or elaborately. Living with mild schizophrenia, he juxtaposes the everyday (buildings, vehicles, musical instruments, nature) with explicit incidents from his personal life (doctors, prescription medication, intimacy, fear). Hidayat’s dense and detailed works are a departure for social and metaphysical conversations.

He is an alumnus of ISI JOGJA and has exhibited in Indonsia and abroad, at Asia Museum of Modern Art in Taichung, Taiwan (2019) and KunstRAI Art Amsterdam (2018).  In 2017, Kedai Kebun Forum (KKF) hosted his exhibition Gombal, with KKF director Agung Kurniawan showing the full spectrum of Indonesia’s cultural complexities through Hidayat’s batiks. His solo retrospective in Singapore is curated by Mama Magnet and shows a body of work ranging from 2013 to 2022.
